Did you know that there are several exceptional books about Elvis, onstage and off, authored by Alanna Nash – Sandie Stevens – Members of Elvis’ infamous Memphis Mafia (i.e. Marty Lacker, Billy Smith, Red West, Sonny West, Joe Esposito, Jerry Schilling, Charlie Hodge, Lamar Fike, etc.) & Sandi Pichon among others?
Did you know that Elvis wore lifts in his shoes so that he would be six foot or slightly over?
Did you know that Elvis was self taught to play the guitar and piano?
Did you know that Elvis had a dental cap on his front teeth?
Did you know that Elvis swallowed his tooth cap during filming of Jailhouse Rock and had to have a medical procedure to retrieve it?
Did you know that there were, excluding other movies which Elvis disliked due to the lack of quality of script and/or being repetitive, two movies Elvis made that he would never watch and never allowed to be played (even if it came on TV) anywhere near him? The movies were Jailhouse Rock due to the fact that his female co-star Judy Tyler died just after filming completed in an automobile accident. The other was Loving You as Elvis’ beloved mother, Gladys Love (Smith) Presley, was a part of the audience.
DId you know that Elvis was never nominated for a Grammy award other than the three he received in the Gospel category?
Did you know that the total number of records Elvis sold has never fully been audited/confirmed a fact that greatly annoys Elvis Presley fans, including this one, dating back to the 1970’s?

Surprisingly the girls who Elvis took to prom/dances, during his high school years, said that Elvis was too shy to dance.
Those around Elvis (i.e. his trusted friends) knew he disliked to dance but he made the distinction between dancing and moving to the rhythm while performing. On stage, and in film, Elvis moved and the audience went…wild.
There are many unique moments when Elvis got caught up in the music and he let loose earning his nickname of “tiger”. Fortunately Elvis left behind numerous movies, and live concerts, whereby his talents are apparent.
I have ranked what I believe, for different reasons and in no specific order, are the top five Elvis Presley dance scenes:

Elvis Presley was, privately and publicly, one of the greatest charities champions that ever lived. Out of the many charities Elvis supported one of his favorite charities was St. Jude’s Hospital for children in Memphis. Beginning in June 1957 Elvis appeared with Danny Thomas on stage promoted as the “Shower of Stars”. This concert was at Russwood Park in Memphis.
In 1964 Elvis purchased a yacht named “the Potomac, whose previous owner was the United States President Franklin Roosevelt. The event raised (approximately) $55,000 and the yacht was scheduled to be sold via auction with the proceeds going to St. Jude’s Hospital.
I have, through my collection of Elvis for (approximately) six decades now, so many personal stories about Elvis; reading a newspaper and finding out that a family had lost a parent, performing sold out concerts and donating the proceeds to victims of tornadoes, going to a home of a disabled teen and personally delivering a wheel chair Elvis bought, writing checks each year for (approximately) 100 charities, buying brand new cars for strangers, going to hospitals and visiting with patients especially children, allowing his image – time – wealth – etc. to be associated with several major charities including national promotional campaigns raising thousands upon thousands of dollars (i.e. Polio, March of Dimes, St. Jude’s, etc.) giving away his jewelry to strangers and/or those in need, and/or hearing about a family or a person in need and immediately writing a check. Also, I have rare photographs of Elvis in many of these interactions as well as those close to him, and/or those who were with him at the time, confirming that Elvis put a brave face on in front of the patients but afterward breaking down in tears along with praying for them and their families.
Recently I received a handwritten letter, in response to a small donation I made, thanking me which included several promotional materials, notepad, address labels, etc. I wish I could do much more for St. Jude’s and other deserving charities for as I type these words there are people dealing with sicknesses around the world. My heart, and prayers, go out to them and their loved ones. It is my reverent hope, and prayer, that there comes a time when those with illnesses are cured and that the pain(s) of those ill, and their loved ones, are minimize and substituted with strength.

She was the world to me. She always believed in me. When my career got going I spent too much time away from her. There wasn’t a mother who loved her son more. There wasn’t a son who loved his mother more. She is my everything.
Rock and roll music has been around for about five years. The people like it. It’s selling. I don’t know how much longer it will last because years ago when the charleston was popular if you went up to those people and said it wouldn’t last they would not have believed you.
I have hopes and dreams just like everyone else. One day I want to have a wife. A family. Because that’s what is really important in life…family.
I’ve got folks from Kentucky. I played the armory there in Louisville. The police warned me and thought the crowd would go wild or they thought I would go wild (laughter) so the police filmed me. The people there are real nice and some of the most beautiful country in the world is in Kentucky.
Colonel do you know if we got anything in the works? An 8 millimeter disney movie.
I’ve been in love. About 3 or 4 times but it never worked out. Even when your heart is broke or hurt you still have to be open to love and believe it will happen. That’s what I do.
)In response to a question about his favorite male and female actors) I like the films by James Dean, Marlon Brando. I like Kim Novak.
I cared too much it made me physically ill. I don’t think they purposely wanted to hurt my career but when I got the script it was the same thing. I played the same characters with different names and locations. The movies made money but it got to a point, and most of the songs weren’t that good, that it made me sick. Sick to my stomach. Just sick but I had to do it because I had contracts.
I like to read. From newspaper to magazines to books. As a child I read comic books. I read some of them over and over. I read different books. Probably the first book I ever saw was the bible. I carry around books on tour and I always have my bible with me.
I’ve been lucky. I don’t know why God blessed me. I think about that a lot. Some people think I’m some sorta different from everyday people. I cry. I have fears. I have hopes and dreams. I hurt when I see bad things happen to people especially children. When I went to the hospitals to visit with them I put on a smile for them. I give them an autograph or a teddy bear. But as soon as I leave the hospital I break down. I don’t show it to them because they are going through enough. I feel. The public doesn’t see that often but people close to me have seen it and a lot of times it’s just me with my feelings.

Courtesy of Fox News here is an interesting article about a vehicle Elvis supposedly used to venture out in public.
Legend has it that Elvis Presley wanted to be an undercover agent. Turns out, he may have been a good one.
Three-time NASCAR championship winning crew chief Ray Evernham recently visited Graceland to shoot a segment for his Velocity show AmeriCarna about the last car Elvis drove before he died, a 1973 Stutz Blackhawk III.
While he was there, the Graceland folks told him the vehicle he really wanted to see was tucked away in a warehouse out back. There, under a sheet, was a rusty old 1948 Chevrolet Panel Van that they say Elvis used to use to sneak out of Graceland when he wanted to avoid his fans and the press.
Apparently, the King used to put on a baseball cap and a jacket and slip out via a rear driveway when he wanted to go to the movies or shopping, and no one was ever the wiser. One time the truck even broke down on the side of the road and several members of the Graceland staff passed by with no idea that it was the boss that was stranded.
The Chevy has been hidden from public view since Elvis died, and is just the way he left it. Along with his famous 1955 pink Cadillac, it’s purportedly been in Graceland’s collection the longest.

For those who did not live through the era when Elvis Presley was alive will never appreciate all of the talents that Elvis had. In every category of entertainment Elvis was unsurpassed. Here is a quick checklist.
Acting – Elvis was the ONLY movie star who made money (gross and net) for the studio in everyone of his movies.
TV – Elvis’ 1950s TV appearances captured over 85% of the entire viewing audience. Elvis’ appearances on Ed Sullivan were groundbreaking and encompassed Elvis’ style, movement, passion, and his vocal abilities. Elvis 1960 Frank Sinatra Special, when Elvis was discharged from the United States Army in 1960, was the most watched TV show of that year. Elvis’ 1973 Aloha from Hawaii special was watched, via satellite, by over a BILLION PEOPLE. Keep in mind that the US population then was approximately 211 million people versus the approximately 365 million people today.
Concert Appearances – Elvis was the greatest live performer of all time. No backup distraction dancers. No special digital effects. No lip syncing. No auto tune. Just Elvis on a stage with a microphone and the fans went crazy. Elvis played to SOLD OUT concert venues, the largest in the United States including the 1970 Houston appearance in excess of 100,000 paid audience members, every year from 1969 until (sadly) his death in 1977. Elvis is known, for good reason, to be the “king of Las Vegas” because he earned it.
Record sales – Elvis was, and is, the ONLY singer to have number 1 records in (4) four decades (i.e. 1950s, 1960s, 1970s, and again in 2002 (a little less conversation remix). Elvis is the ONLY singer to have number 1 records in the categories of; gospel, rhythm and blues, country, rock and roll, pop music, and Christmas. Elvis’ record sales, over a billion, have been “undercounted” as there has never been a true, and accurate, attempt to calculate all of his sales in the United States and worldwide. Elvis’ music was so diverse, and exceptional, that it diluted the amount of number 1 songs and top ten hits (i.e. BIllboard came out in 1956 and Elvis’ hits were put into multiple categories as no one would put a “label” on his vocal range and style).
Graceland – Elvis’ longtime personal residence in Memphis Tennessee is the second most visited home in the United States and has been since it’s opening in 1982. Only the White House has more visitors annually than Graceland.
Earnings – Elvis made millions in eras when the “medium family income” was $5,000.00 (five thousand dollars). Elvis’ has been the highest paid earner over 97%, in a (sadly) category of deceased, of the time from 1977 until this post 2015.
In every possible category Elvis Presley is, was, and forever will be the greatest singer/performer/entertainer who ever lived and that includes Michael Jackson.
