Remembering Todd Morgan @ Graceland/EPE

I love Todd. Still do. He was phenomenal at navigating the responsibilities of his job, whereby he earned promotions, and he was the gatekeeper for Elvis Presley fans around the world. He was smart, funny, quick-witted, talented, and a good man who I respected and cherished our friendship and who Todd was.

I met what would be a lifetime friend in Todd Morgan in 1983 the third time I visited Graceland starting when it opened in 1982. We were the same age. We both liked Elvis. We communicated for decades until sadly he passed on March 1, 2008, at age 45. Todd was 7 months “older” than me and I used to tell him that he had the dream job (i.e. working at Graceland/EPE) I wanted and he would tell me I had the dream income he wanted. We always tried to one-up the other. He would surprise me with something unique about Elvis and I would counter him with other facts and life events. I miss Todd every day and my prayers go out to his family 24/7.

I had spoken to Todd about a week to 10 days before he died. He mentioned something about an upcoming promotion and staying in Memphis but reporting to someone in California (if my memory is true) and he was excited about it. We agreed that when next I visited Graceland again we would do lunch and/or dinner as we had in years past. It was his turn to buy and I would joke that getting a quarter out of Todd was an accomplishment. We would laugh at that.

Todd always asked about my family, how I was doing, and if I enjoyed (then) Atlanta and (later) the Washington DC area where I resided. I invited him to come out but it never occurred. I should have persisted more. Sometimes I still look at our emails I read them over and over. I miss him and I was blessed to know him. Todd Morgan was one of a kind.

To Todd Morgans’s family, friends, and loved ones please know you are forever in my thoughts and prayers.

Take care and may God bless you always.

47 years ago Elvis Presley died (i.e. August 16, 1977 to August 16, 2024) by Jeff Schrembs

Somedays it seems like lifetimes ago.

Other days it seems like yesterday.

The news that Elvis had died made the world…pause.

Many cried. Many thought it a cruel joke. Thousands reached out to friends and loved ones. Even without the internet word spread in minutes.

While I had seen the deterioration in the outward appearance of Elvis, starting in 1974 on that August day I never imagined that God would take Elvis home so soon. You see I was, and am, the final generation who grew up with Elvis. Who lived during his tremendous career. Who were fans. Fans sho spent our money on the latest album, 45 and/or 8 track followed by cassettes. Man, I kept all things Elvis a habit I’ve continued much of my life. You see Elvis was a bridge. On one side of my family they loved Elvis’ gospel. And only gospel. On the other side of the family they loved Elvis’ voice and range. Thus they had many Elvis albums. Both sides admired his humility, his talents, his passions, his triumps, his failures, his 4 1/2 vocal octave range, and his uniqueness.

August 16th of every year brings a sadness even now. Maybe its because I have lived decades longer than Elvis did (i.e. my 7 decades versus his 4) or maybe its because we will never again see the likes of Elvis for many good reasons.

I think one of the things that endure is the fact that my granddaughters like certain Elvis songs. They have them on their playlists. And these are teenage girls. Young women with virtually any song ever made at their fingertips. Yeah, they may get tired of hearing “Always on my mind” for the 11th bazallionth time but hey, life is short.

Thank you WordPress. Thank you to those who visit this site and/or follow me. May God bless you all.

Happy Birthday Elvis (1/8/2024)

Under unusual circumstances, Elvis Aaron Presley came into this world the second of two identical twins, the firstborn was “stillborn” (i.e. dead), son of Gladys Love Presley (Smith) and Vernon Elvis Presley.

Elvis would be 89 years old close to the same age as my mother who is a huge Elvis Presley fan.

I am sad that Lisa Marie Presley is no longer with us. My thoughts and prayers go out to her (3) three daughters.

I also want to thank Jack Soden @ Graceland for all he has done for Elvis fans these past five decades.

Being the last generation to live through Elvis’ career, and life, it is impossible to accurately convey what it was like when Elvis was touring, recording, and plastered on the cover of magazines and tabloids.

We watched his triumphs. We worried when he got a divorce from Priscilla. We worried about his health and when we saw the weight gain and the bloating in his face and body, we hoped that Elvis would stop touring and focus on his health but sadly that was not to be.

I miss the world that Elvis lived in. At times I don’t know this world when up is down and truth is miminimzed.

The story of Elvis Presley is a true American success story. I’ve written about it more than a few times and will try to do so in the future.

Take care and may God bless you and yours…always.

The first Thanksgiving without Lisa Marie Presley

Memories can bring into focus powerful images wrought with emotions.

Recently, I was thinking about that humid August week in 1977 when I, and the world, saw little Lisa Marie wearing her white knee socks holding the hand of loved ones in the, previously never thought of event the, funeral of Elvis Presley. Similar to the image of JFK, Jr saluting his father’s casket that image of Lisa Marie is engrained into my psyche along with a type of protectionism.

I was thinking that when Lisa Marie died (sadly) fans had to face the unimaginable. That Lisa Marie Presley died, like her beloved father, too…soon.

She left behind 3 incredibly talented daughters and, as is a parent’s worst nightmare, buried a son.

I hope that her daughters will always know that many, as I will, pray for them. Want the best for them and hope that Graceland doesn’t become more… unattainable for so many. With everything now being so expensive I would not want those without means to be regulated to only photographs. Or videos. For Graceland was home to a man blessed by God and yet he was far from perfect. Elvis was…real.

It hasn’t even been a year since Lisa Marie’s passing and yet it seems longer. I guess thats the case when a light ceases to be.

I plan on writing more about this subject in the future.

Take care and may God bless you and yours always.

Reviewing the “Priscilla” movie 2023 by Jeff Schrembs

Factually incorrect.

Biased against Elvis.

Another male-hating film

Disparages southerners

Washes over much of Priscilla’s role in the deterioration of the marriage

Actors seem like they are made out of paper mache

The dialog is consistent with the verbiage in children’s books “Jack and Jill ” and stale.

And Lisa Marie had problems with the script and expressed her displeasure about it.

One day someone will make a movie, maybe a trilogy, that accurately conveys the American dream that Elvis achieved through talent, hard work, and faith in God. I’ve been waiting 7 decades and I am among the last generation that lived throughout Elvis’ career and there is so much to Elvis’ life story worth telling. Elvis’ 3 decades of excellence.

Take care and may God bless you always.

The latest Elvis movie

Hollywood has revisited the life story of Elvis Presley and the costumes, and sets, are spot on. The movie goes back and forth in time and takes liberties with facts. Some things are just…wrong. But, if it brings an appreciation of Elvis the man, and the performer, then I’m all for it,

Sometimes knowing too much about a topic, as I do Elvis, adversely affects the experience of watching a 2 1/2 hour film. It did in this case.

While no one before, now, or will ever have the looks – the style – the magnetism – the life experiences – how complicated he was – etc of Elvis the actor gives his all. Good for him.

I also think it is not fair to expect a movie to go into the entire career of Elvis which spanned 3 decades.

Most of all this movie made me want to go to the original sources as I continue to appreciate Elvis onstage and off as I have these 7 decades.

Take care and may God bless you and yours always.
